Dear Members
Even though it rained during some of the minis games, this could not dampen what was a very successful HK7s tournament for DeA Tigers minis. It was a pleasure to see all of our kids playing with such fervour and having fun at HK Stadium, which is a memory we will all treasure for years to come. DeA minis did us proud and all kids should be congratulated not only on their performance during the hard fought matches they played, but also on their excellent behaviour throughout the event. I have also received very positive feedback, and HKRFU management were very pleased with the way the minis and youth events passed, especially the good behaviour of all children during the marchpast. I wish to thank all coaches and members who helped to ensure this was such a success and for giving up their time so readily ( rather than getting drunk up in the stands!). I think that came later! If anyone has photos of DeA minis at the HK stadium, then please pass these on to Brenton Judge (U7 coach, but I think he has a child in every age group so he is easy to find). Brenton will then upload these to our DeA website.
On Sunday 5th April, it will be back to training as usual for all age groups, from 08.30-11.00. Please make every effort to come this week as we will present the March awards to the kids who have performed well over the past month. I hope that all members can meet in front of the clubhouse at 11.00 for this occasion and that some budding amateur photographers can be there to take photos for our website. Volunteers welcome!
We have extended the minis season until Sunday 10th May this year, so we hope all members can manage to support this decision and bring their kids along for training up until that date. We have all 3 pitches booked, so need to make full use of them. Also, we need to get team photos for this season, so I will try to arrange a photographer to be at KP on Sunday 12th April to take photos of individual age groups. Please note this in your diaries and make sure you come along, so that the beauty of your kids can be portrayed alongside the less fortunate faces of some of our coaches.
On Saturday 4th April, there will be an All Day Girls Festival held at King's Park. Minis girls will play from 08.30-12.30 approx, while youth and seniors will play up until about 4.30pm. Please come along and support this event as we want a good turnout. We have girls representing DeA minis from all age groups, so if your daughter has not yet decided to play, there is still time to participate. More girls the better (always been Mark Hunter's motto, I believe!). If we do not have enough players from DeA in any age group, the girls will be combined with players from another team, so they will get to play, which is the most important thing. The HK Mini Rugby Football Union are working hard to promote girls rugby in Hong Kong, particularly as we hope it will become a new Olympic sport. Also NOW TV are making a documentary on girls rugby in HK and will be at King's Park filming the event. We therefore need as many girls as possible to be playing. There is no charge to attend this event.
On the evening of Saturday 25th April, we will have our DeA Tigers Ball at Kowloon Cricket Club. This will be a black tie event for members from minis, youth and seniors to enjoy themselves at the end of the season. Details about ticket sales and on the event will be sent out soon. Please try to come, as it is always a great occasion.
Finally, the HKRFU will be offering another referees course, as detailed below:
