U8 SINGAPORE TOURNAMENT - LAST CALL!
Dear Parents,
I write to you further to my previous email below regarding the U8’s participation in the tournament in Singapore.
Thank you firstly to all the parents who have responded and I am pleased to inform you that we have numbers to enter at least one U8 team.
We are waiting for our confirmation from the tournament organisers and will then confirm our booking to secure the cheapest packages.
I expect this to be the end of this week and will send a separate email to all of you who are participating which will include the final booking deadline, costs, itinerary etc.
This is therefore the last chance for those of you who may still be interested - please let me know by 2nd October 2009 and include full names of participants (as shown in your travel documents) and the dates of birth of all children in your reply.
I’d add that you should not be concerned about the current skill level and rugby ability of your child as the basis for deciding whether to participate or not.
The primary objectives are to be part of the touring team, trying their best and in particular to enjoy the experience and have fun.
There is no need to email me if you are not able to attend.
If anyone has any queries please feel free to contact me.
Regards
Marcus Praetorius

PREVIOUS EMAIL SG TOURNAMENT:
Dear Parents,
You may recall my email of last week informing you of a number of upcoming regional tournaments that DeA Tigers have been invited to participate in. Following the minis committee meeting last Sunday it was agreed that our U8’s will represent DeA Tigers at the 4th Singapore International Minis & Youth Tournament taking place on 5th December 2009.
I have attached the tournament flyer and rules FYI. Rules are simple – touch rugby, no scrum.
This is a great opportunity for our U8’s and one that will surely not be repeated again in this age group.
There will be very strong international teams and apart from testing themselves internationally at this level they will participate in a unique international festival attended by rugby playing children from all around the world.
Whilst the club budget won’t stretch to paying for the whole trip for everyone the good news is that we will be able to get a contribution of approx. $1,000 per family for the trip.
There will be at least 4 coaches and their children attending including myself. We would ideally need a minimum of 10 children to field one team – at this stage we have 6 confirmed.
All we need is another 4 children to be able to enter a team. It would be most disappointing if we were unable to field at least one team from some 60 children enrolled in this age group.
Families are welcome to attend with mums, dads and siblings and we will be able to include any additional family members whether playing or not in our group booking at the discounted rates.
Kindly review the details below and inform me by return email no later than 30 September 2009 if you and your child will be attending.
Please also let me know if you and your child are willing and able to attend however are unable to or have difficulty meeting the costs.
DATES:
The minis tournament is on the Saturday 5 December 2009 and we propose to enter the U8J group which is for 2002/2003 kids.
FLIGHTS
With regards to timing we would have to leave Friday 4 December 2009. Depending on work commitments that could be an evening flight or we could go afternoon and squeeze in some kind of activity with the children on Friday night (night safari, flyer etc?? Or something like that – suggestions welcome) Return flights could be anytime Sunday and I’d suggest around 1pm or so. I will make enquiries on CX and SQ and see if we can get some kind of package/discount etc.
HOTELS –
The hotel choices we have with packages will be limited however some of our parents may be better connected and be able to assist in this regard.I expect 10 adults & 10 children.
TRANSPORT –
Transport will be arranged to get us to/from the venue and also the airport unless we have that part otherwise covered in a travel package.
COST
I expect the costs to be no more than $5,000 per parent/child for flights/accommodation (that amount does not include the club contribution – so it is even cheaper).
Cheers
Marcus Praetorius
