Update on DeA Minis Issues
Dear DeA Minis Members
I hope you all had a great Easter holiday. I also hope you had a great time at the HK7s, for those of you who were able to attend. How Canada beat Wales I will never know!!
Sunday 11th April - this Sunday, it will be training as usual for the U6-U9 age groups, but this will be from 08.30-10.30 on pitch 3 only. Therefore, space will be at a premium and I ask all coaches to coordinate pitch space amongst themselves. The reason for this is that King's Park is holding a touch rugby tournament from 09.00-13.00 on pitches 1 & 2. This is organised by one of our DeA members, Hau, and so we always try to support this event. Proceeds go towards helping DeA rugby. Consequently, DeA Minis have entered 2 x U12 teams, 2 x U11s and 2 x U10s, as well as 4 x coaches/parents teams into a touch rugby tournament to held at King's Park. I attach the touch rugby rules, which I hope you can show to your child before Sunday, and also the schedule for the day. The tournament runs from 09.00-13.00, so we would be grateful if all U10s-U12s could be at KP by 08.30, so as to allow time for coaches to organise their teams and to talk about tactics etc. Basically, each squad consists of 12 players, 6 of whom can be on the pitch at the same time, so we will need 24 kids maximum from each of the 3 age groups entered. This tournament will be competitive and there will be trophies at the end, but primarily it will be played for fun and is a bit diffrent from the rugby the kids are generally used to. It is not about winning necessarily, but about having fun. Even though it is touch rugby, mouthguards are still required for kids, in case of accidental clash of heads etc.
The coaches/parents teams we entered last year had a great time, but we were only competitive against ourselves!! Certainly we won no trophies, but who knows this year, as I know the U6 and U7 coaches and parents have been training hard for the past few weeks!! U10-U12s coaches were hard at work at the bar after their coaching sessions, even though I tried to encourage team practice, as all responsible Chairpersons would do!
Only 3 weekends left of the season now, so I hope everyone can turn up each weekend until the end of April. On 18th April, we will have Kowloon RFC training with us, so some outside opposition to play against. Details to follow next week. Then, on 25th April, we will have our final training day, followed by our DeA Minis AGM at 11.00-11.30 and a buffet to end the season. Again, a reminder that we will ask all parents to contribute some food on the 25th so that we have a successful buffet!
Finally, for anyone wanting to do the next referees' course:
