First Division match report: Tigers roar to victory over hapless Causeway Bay

Despite missing regular first teamers Jon Abel, Nigel Clarke and captain Rowan Varty, the DeA Tigers spoiled a happy reunion for old former Tigers Simon Tasker and Anthony Hopewell, by defeating Causeway Bay by 56-0 at So Kon Po, in what can only be described as a proppa mauling.

The undisputed star of the show was Keith Robertson, who scored three tries, set up countless others and had a night with the boot to remember. He certainly made up for his poor form in front of the posts against Kowloon, to convert all of DeA’s tries and a couple of penalties to boot.

Causeway Bay started brightly and it took the Tigers 15 minutes to put some points on the board, the try and subsequent conversion coming from that man Keith Robertson, who pounced on a loose ball to kick through the CWB defence, calmly collecting his kick and then running coolly around a couple of defenders using his blistering pace. 7-0

First Division match report: DeA Tigers RFC vs Kowloon RFC

Venue: So Kon Po Date:3rd October 2009

The first league match of the season, new players, new rumours, new captain, were DeA Tigers up to the challenge was the question on peoples minds, were we “Better Than Before”?

After an intense lead up to the season with some good solid training sessions under our belts and the first mass club overseas tour to Singapore just a few weeks before the Tigers 1st XV were eager to get out there and impress the throngs of supporters who had come to So Kon Po to watch the season opener – The Rage in the Cage. A strong lineup had been selected by coach Kaneo who was obviously nervous on the sidelines, seen muttering to himself and biting his nails.

Pretty in pink function to support Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation

Message from Club Chair: Lorna Meads

Dear All,

Please see below.  All our games on the 17 October will be at HKFC. The day will be a full on family day with face painting, balloons, bouncy castle etc in very safe contained space and grown ups can enjoy the rugby (bonus!).

It's for a very worthy cause, one that we have all been touched by either directly or indirectly, and it will be a great night.  Would be really good to see some support for an event which is actually, a day's worth of good rugby and camaraderie.  Realistically, we are the best clubs on and off the paddock, I sincerely hope that we, as DeA, can make a presence.

It will be a great day followed by an even better evening.  What better cause AND, time to put those glad rags on in between the summer and Christmas lull!

As you are aware Rugby players from the Hong Kong Football Club will be in pink when they scrum down against opposition as part of a fund-raising drive to support breast cancer awareness. All seven senior teams from the HKFC’s Rugby Section will wear a special pink kit for their league fixtures on 17th October, which will be followed by a black tie ‘Pretty in Pink Ball’ in the evening. The day hopes to raise more than HK$200,000 for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.

New season for DeA Mini rugby commences on Sunday 16th August 2009 - registration

Dear All

As the new season will start on 16th August, please go to the DeA Tigers RFC minis website and register your son(s)/daughter(s)for the new season. The forms have been updated for 2009 regisstration. The yearly registration fee will be HK$600 for the first child and HK$400 for every other child in the same family, so this is still an excellent offer. This fee will include the new club kit for the new season.

We appreciate that the weather will still be hot in mid-August, so there will be a more relaxed, gentle start to the season, so as to enable the coaches to trim down their beer guts before getting too serious. I encourage everyone to register online as early as possible and to bring the registration form(s) along to King's Park on your first visit. The new kit will then be provided after payment has been received.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Best regards,

Peter (DeA Tigers RFC Minis Chair)
