Mini rugby

It's not the winning but the spirit of fair-play, enjoyment and safety that is paramount.

This aim forms the basis upon which mini rugby is structured in Hong Kong and, indeed, in many countries. A competitive spirit is inevitable in any sport, but with children this should not be allowed to dominate or to detract from the joy of simply playing this game.

Currently there are more than a dozen clubs in Hong Kong offering mini rugby to almost three thousand children! It is arguably the best organised sport for children in Hong Kong featuring multi-club festivals and involvement in the international Hong Kong Rugby Sevens.

The Hong Kong Mini Rugby Union oversees the game for players under 12 and arranges for all players to be insured. All clubs are represented and through this body maintain links with the HKRFU, which provides financial and training support. The last five years has seen a dramatic move from a sport previously dominated by expatriates to one in which all sectors of the community are involved especially the Chinese population.

The rules of mini rugby attempt to maximise the opportunities of each player to become involved in the game, develop skills commensurate with their age, and maintain safety. Details of the basic rules can be found in the either the indiviual team sections or for the various age groups in the Referee section.

DeA Merchandise - going fast...

The remaining DeA merchandise is selling out fast, so if you have not had a chance to buy a club polo shirt, T-shirt or hoodie the remaining stock will be on sale this Sunday from 10:30am (probably in the clubhouse, or else on the balcony overlooking KP3) - please don't ask any earlier than that as we'll be coaching...

The DeA backpacks and ripstop jackets are sold out, but we have limited numbers in various sizes in most other items. First come first served - cash preferred...

DeA Mini Rugby Updates

Dear Minis Members

HKFC Festival - I hope that you all had a wonderful time at the HKFC festival. Although it was rather tedious having to queue for food and beverages, the rugby that was on show was terrific. I managed to get around and see several age groups playing and the DeA teams at all age groups were excellently represented and played to a very high standard. It is great to see that we are extremely competitive at all age groups and the results we achieved were superb. A big thank you must go out to our numerous volunteer coaches and for the parents for giving so freely of their time. As a final note, the DeA U12s were tremndous in winning the Plate competition last weekend and the DeA U11/12 girls mixed as a Barbarians team with other clubs to be surprise winners of the girls' Cup competition, so well done to both teams! I am sure they will be showwing off the silverware this weekend and we shall have it put into a cabinet in the clubhouse.

Still urgently needs 7s tickets (esp. Friday)

Dear Tigers,

A reminder that if you don't intend going to every day of the 7s we have other Tigers who would like to go and we are very short of tickets, especially for Friday.  Please let 7stickets@deatigersrfc.com know and we will match you up with someone looking for tickets.

Thanks.

Hong Kong Football Club festival on Sunday 14th March 2010 - programme/schedule

Dear DeA Minis Members

This is a final reminder that there will be no training at King's Park on Sunday, as DeA Minis will be playing at the HKFC festival, Happy Valley. Please enter the playing area via the tunnel entrance next to Happy Valley race course. Details of the playing areas for individual age groups, and the playing schedules, are outlined in the HKFC programme, which can be found on the DeA Minis website at: www.deatigersrfc.com

 Basically, the playing times for matches for each age group are:

U6 = 09.30-11.30 (please note that U6s MUST NOT wear studded boots on their pitch, so please ensure your U6 child wears training shoes)

U7 = 08.30-11.20

U8 = 08.30-11.20

U9 = 10.00-13.25

U10 = 10.00-13.50

U9/10 girls = 13.00-14.00

U11 = 13.30-16.15

U12 = 11.24-16.30

U11/12 girls = 14.30-16.45

It is important that all players are at HKFC at least 30 minutes before their first scheduled game, as coaches will need time to organise teams and to get the kids warmed up.

This is the last major tournament before the HK7s, so we hope we can have a great turn-out from the DeA Minis. We also hope that parents can offer plenty of support for our teams at all age groups, but remember that the spirit of fun and fair play should prevail, so keep your emotions in check and always smile at the referee when decisions do not go DeA's way!!
